Leadership : Pat Moran
In January 2007, Pat Moran retired from JM Family Enterprises, Inc. (JM Family). She served as chairman of the diversified automotive corporation and its core company, Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET), the world's largest independent distributorship of Toyota and Scion vehicles. She was also dealer principal of JM Lexus, the largest volume Lexus dealership in the world. As Chairman, Pat participated in the long-range strategic planning and leadership development for the organization.
Pat joined JM Family in 1983. While with the company she held a variety of positions including vice president of Associate Relations, where she was responsible for managing Human Resources activities for JM Family; and group vice president of Sales, where she directed the marketing and dealer organizational activities for SET. Pat joined JM Family in an entry-level position as clerk, and rose through the ranks gaining on-the-job training, learning the business firsthand with each position she held. In 1989, Pat was named president of Southeast Toyota Distributors and executive vice president of JM Family. She was promoted to president and CEO of JM Family in 1992. In 2000, Pat was named chairman of the board and president of SET. She became Chairman of the Board of JM Family in 2003, relinquishing the position of President and CEO to Colin Brown.
JM Family has grown from a core distribution business into a diversified automotive corporation with more than 4,600 associates with major operations in Deerfield Beach, Jacksonville, and Margate, Fla.; Commerce and Alpharetta, Ga.; Mobile, Ala.; and St. Louis, Mo. JM Family is ranked by Forbes magazine as the 18th-largest privately owned corporation in the United States. For nine consecutive years, JM Family has been ranked by FORTUNE as one of the 100 Best Companies to Work For. It is also currently ranked No. 9 on the InformationWeek 500 list of leading technology innovators, its fifth consecutive year on the list. Principle businesses focus on vehicle distribution and processing, finance and warranty services, insurance activities, retail sales and dealer software products and services. Major subsidiaries include SET; JM Lexus; World Omni Financial Corp., one of the largest automotive finance companies in the nation; JM&A Group, one of the largest independent insurance and extend warranty groups of companies in the U.S.; JM Services Center LLC, the company's internal shared services center; and JMsolutions, a dealer-focused technology products and services company.
Pat remains actively involved in several organizations dedicated to disadvantaged children. Her commitment to helping children and families in need is demonstrated by her having founded, in 1998, Deliver the Dream - a not-for-profit retreat program for families facing serious illness or other crisis.
A recipient of numerous business and community leadership awards, Pat was honored as the 2003 Entrepreneur/Business Leader of the Year by the College of Business, Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla. She has received the national Silver Medallion Award from the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ) in recognition of serving as a role model in the corporate community and for fellow citizens in the community at large; and the Excalibur Award from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel as Business Leader of the Year, Broward County. She was a founding Board Member of Take Stock in Children, a program that provides mentoring and scholarships to disadvantaged high school students. In addition, she is a recipient of the American Cancer Society's Excalibur Award for her role in the Breast Cancer Initiative, a program developed by the American Cancer Society to increase awareness of the importance of early breast cancer detection.
Pat has been honored with the Automotive Hall of Fame's “Distinguished Service Citation Award;” Northwood University's “Distinguished Women of the Year Award;” the Women's Automotive Association International “Spirit of Leadership Award;” Leadership Broward's “Leader of the Year Award;” the National Mother's Day Committee's “Outstanding Mother Award;” and South Florida CEO magazine's "Business Leader of the Year Award” and has been designated twice by Automotive News as one of its 100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry. Pat is also one of City of Hope's "South Florida Business Women Award” recipients. City of Hope is a research center dedicated to finding cures for life-threatening illnesses such as breast cancer, HIV, diabetes and other diseases.
Pat is a Foundation Board member of the Committee 200, a national organization of women business leaders, the National Association of Automobile Dealers (NAAD) and the American International Automobile Dealer Association (AIADA). She was appointed by former Governor Jeb Bush to serve as a member of Enterprise Florida, which helps guide the state's economic growth.
In 2003, with an endowment made by JM Family Enterprises, Inc., the University of North Florida in Jacksonville established the Transportation and Logistics Scholarship. Awarded annually, it covers full tuition, books and fees for a deserving Pat Moran Scholar who is majoring in transportation and logistics, maintains outstanding grades, and who has financial need.
JM Family is a leader in giving back to the communities in which it does business. In 2003, the company sponsored Pat Moran/JM Family Enterprises' Habitat for Humanity “Women Building a Legacy”. For three years, Pat hosted the Woman's Build Luncheon Committee for Habitat for Humanity and involves other women business leaders to help raise money and support for the organization. Pat was named Honorary Chair of the American Cancer Society's 2005 and 2006 “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” fundraising walks in Palm Beach and Broward counties.
Pat grew up in Chicago, Ill. and attended Marquette University in Wisconsin. She has three children and five grandchildren.
